Cloud, didn’t it do well

By Giles Shorthouse on 31st March 2016

A few years back it wasn’t really the done thing to openly state you thought Cloud was a good thing and that it had a future. It was thoroughly lambasted by hordes of naysayers: …It’s smoke and mirrors! …It’s no good for small businesses! …It’s insecure! …It’s only any use if you’re in the US! One of the most passionate pieces of anti-Cloud propaganda was Tech Tangerine’s 2009 article Ten Reasons Why Cloud Computing is a Bad Idea. Well guess what guys. Cloud’s actually done okay! Cloud adoption continues to gather apace, with 84% of companies surveyed by The Cloud Industry Forum last year stating they had hosted or cloud-based services in use today. Up significantly from 53% in 2011.imageedit_1_8853041321 (1) And the plethora of publications, forums and expos dedicated to Cloud are further testament to its unstoppable momentum. This April Cloud Expo Europe (12-13th at ExCeL) will aim to beat the 15000+ attendees that it had through the doors last year. With the likes of Dell, IBM and Cisco sponsoring, it’s the largest independent cloud event in the world. 2016 sees the launch of a number of new streams at Cloud Expo Europe – Smart IoT London, Cloud Security Expo and the FinTech Circle stream. With the boom in disruptive FinTech startups that utilise the cloud to expand at lightning speed it’s great to see FinTech Circle being offered, but perhaps the ongoing threat lies in security. I can imagine Cloud Security Expo event will be bustling. As with all events focused on fast growth markets, Cloud Expo’s going to be loud and proud. If you’re exhibiting this year and thinking about how to make the most of your investment, check out this blog on how to make the most out of your next event. See you there!
