Octopus Group gets grizzly for Decembeard
What is Decembeard?
The Decembeard campaign is part of the charity, Beating Bowel Cancer, who raise funds and awareness to help those affected by bowel cancer. They provide vital practical and emotional help –running the UK’s only nurse-led specialist helpline for bowel cancer. They also campaign to raise public awareness and ensure Governments and health services provide the highest quality care and treatments.
Some of you may have heard about the “Movember” campaign for Men’s Health. The Decembeard campaign is the same concept. Except, you grow a beard in December, instead of a moustache in November.
Why we’re getting involved?
Bowel cancer is the UK’s second biggest cancer killer. Sadly, somebody dies every 30 minutes from bowel cancer, and somebody is diagnosed every 15 minutes. Yet if diagnosed early, more than 90% of cases can be treated successfully.
That’s why we’re getting involved.
It’s also a fun, festive way to raise money for such an important cause and will drum up some healthy office competition.
Here’s some of the different ways our Octopede’s plan on getting involved;
- Those already with beards, will go clean shaven on 30th Nov and grow their beard until the end of December.
- Those without beards, will let their facial hair flourish until the 31st December
- Others already with beards, plan on decorating their beards with glitter, baubles and whatever else they can find to cling on their facial fuzz.
- Those who are unable to grow beards will wear a “Santa” beard in the office
How you can help support?
We’ve got a fundraising target of £500. To help us beat our target and beat bowel cancer, please donate to “Octopus Group” under Team members here.
We will be posting some of our Octopede’s fury faces on our social channels over the next few weeks. Make sure you watch out for those!
