Week in Tech: It’s Christmas!!!
God bless us, every one! This week, all the big retail brands launched their adverts to ramp up the hype around Christmas. Love them or hate them they are unavoidable. Does the high street stand a chance in 2017 against a generation who live online?
Adobe’s latest study has a pretty stand-out finding: “For the first time ever, more U.S. shoppers will visit a retailer’s site using a mobile device than a desktop computer.” Conversion rates remain higher on ‘traditional’ devices but that will soon be a thing of the past. Brick & mortar sales are being influenced by mobile devices too – retail brands have to lead the way on mobile experience to remain relevant.
Oscar-winning directors + multimillion pound budgets = Happy Christmas. “Brands will be spending a record £6 billion on Christmas advertising in 2017”. The good news is that figures from the Office for National Statistics show that purchasing from retailers has increased.
“Dark social” sounds more like a Halloween marketing technique than a Christmas one! As people share gift ideas in the run-up to Christmas they are doing it via one-to-one communication to keep Santa’s list private. Dark social is the latest data that retailers need to be aware of when planning marketing spend.
It isn’t Christmas without an ultimate Christmas tech gift guide. This year, the list includes a door bell and a super Nintendo. Merry Christmas 1992.
